WS19-13
Thompson & Odell Artist Model
5 String Piccolo Banjo
S/N: 2818 1880s 7 x 15 ½ “ 2 1/4 lb.
Fully original
Condition: Excellent.
Background: As banjo popularity soared
in the 1880s, musical arrangements were written in four parts and the piccolo
banjo was made to play the soprano parts. Rims are usually around 7" in diameter
with necks to scale. Like those by most makers, Thompson & Odell piccolos are
quite rare. Very few had tone rings. Most piccolos had no model designation.
About this instrument:
1) Ex-Bollman Collection.
2) One of only 2 known Thompson & Odell piccolos.
3) Quite unusual for a piccolo, this banjo shows signs of rather extensive
playing wear.
