WS14-7
Fairbanks & Cole Un-designated “Commercial
Grade” Model 5 String
S/N: 1415 1881 11 x 26 1/4 “ 3 1/4 lb.
Fully original.
Condition: Excellent.
Background: I cannot identify
this from the catalogs. With its round heel, 1415 S/N, a peghead shape and size
in between what I call the “Early Style” and the typical shape, position
markers on the board in frets 6, 8, 11, and 13, I wonder if it might be a
transitional design. It is remarkably similar to S/N: 2754 which will be
discussed later.
About this instrument:
1) Unusual, possible
transitional peghead shape.
2) Board inlays are not only
positioned in frets 6, 8, 11, and 13, but they are all the way over near the
treble edge of the board.
3) Flush wooden frets.
4) Round heel.
5) Ivory tailpiece.
6) Simple wooden rim.
7) Wooden twist tuners with
pearl dots.
