WS13-9

Unknown Maker              Un-designated Model (Fretless)                                 5 String

S/N: None           1870s              11 x17 1/2" (Nut to Rim)                  4 3/8 lb.

Original except the tuners and tailpiece.

Condition: Excellent with unusual “repair” to the dowel stick.

Background: No specific information available. Likely made in the northeastern U. S. The shape and exaggerated angle of the peghead are somewhat suggestive of Boston-made banjos by Dobson. The massive area cut out of the neck near the rim was quite common in this era. No practical reason for this is known.

About this instrument: Lovely large, one-piece neck of Brazilian rosewood with no fingerboard.
