S/N: None 1870s 10 1/8 x 17 1/4" (Nut to Rim) 5 1/8 lb.
Original except the tuners
and tailpiece. Jim Bollman is of the opinion that the neck and pot were
together originally.
Condition: Excellent.
Background: No specific information available. Likely made in the northeastern U. S. The massive area cut out of the neck near the rim was quite common in this era. No practical reason for this is known.
About this instrument:
1) Ex-Bollman Collection.
2) Beautifully grained one
piece Brazilian rosewood neck with no fingerboard.
3) Very early banjo to have
an engraved metal rim.
